Mr. Acostioaei created three new video works documenting the Romanian community in Cleveland, which were presented at SPACES, an artist-run gallery that provides artists with the freedom to experiment with new processes and ideas. He took part in panel discussions and community projects and gave presentations at local high schools. Through a contact he made during his residency, his videos were shown at Smack Mellon Gallery in Brooklyn.

Anetta Chisa explored the artistic community and life in Seattle. Intrigued by some interesting discoveries she made in the city, she began to research public art and monuments in the US. As a result, she created a new video dealing with Slovak artistic production during the communist period, which was screened at 911.

Olga Florenskaya was given a private studio and access to the print shop, wood shop and computer studio. She was invited to meetings, readings, lectures and receptions with the other residents and had the opportunity to exhibit a body of new work created during her residency at two galleries in Provincetown.

Hallwalls, a former ArtsLink grantee, is a contemporary art center that supports the creation and presentation of new work in the visual, media, performing, and literary arts. Ms. Hadziosmanovic took part in a variety of Hallwalls budget and development meetings which allowed her to learn about the management of the organization. She attended a wide variety of events both at Hallwalls and at other local arts organizations and organized two public screenings of films, including Karnival, which was produced by Maja, and was to later have its world premier at the International Documentary Festival in Amsterdam, and a series of short narratives from Sarajevo. She also participated in a public dialogue with Milena Dragicevic, a professor of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, for students of Arts Management.

The Metropolitan Museum, a former ArtsLink grantee, owns approximately 11,000 drawings and 1.5 million prints. Ms. Hałasa had access to the drawings and prints collection as well as the Museum’s library and was invited to participate in fellowship activities including gallery talks, tours of conservation labs and departments, and meetings with curatorial staff from all over the Museum. She attended conferences at Rutgers University, Columbia University and made studio visits with numerous artists. As a result of her residency, she was invited to participate in a longer curatorial fellowship at the Metropolitan and in a fellowship at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

LMCC is a wide-reaching organization that serves as arts advocate, presenter, re-granter and arts service provider. Mr. Heta participated in LMCC’s Workspace program for a special 35-day residency within the 9-month season for 30 artists and writers. He received an individual workspace within a shared studio environment and attended weekly gatherings and salon evenings with peers and arts professionals. As a result of his residency Mr. Heta was able to shoot two new videos, including one near the New York Stock exchange. LMCC staff secured a location and permissions for this shoot and they organized a special open house at LMCC to screen his new work.

Film director and artist Saodat Ismailova divides her time between Tashkent, Uzbekistan and Paris, France. Her film, Aral: Fishing in an Invisible Sea, won the prize for best documentary film at the Turin Film Festival in 2004. In 2013, Ismailova showed her first video-installation piece Zukhra at the Venice Biennale. Her first full-length film 40 Days of Silence about the life of four generations of Tajik women premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in 2014 and received wide international recognition.

During her residency, Ismailova reconstructed the history of the Central Asian colonizer Alexander the Great, working with contemporary toponymy and landscapes. The project included a series of interviews, photographs and documentation using scientific and poetic texts.

The Visiting Artists Program, a former ArtsLink grantee, promotes dialogue on contemporary art through public presentations by artists, critics, writers, historians, and scholars. Ms. Korosteleva. met with international students and arts professionals at weekly VAP events, dinners, classroom visits, workshops and studio critiques. She gave a screening of Russian videos at the Art Institute and discussed a possible exchange to Russia by Art Institute faculty members.

Since 1986, Headlands, a former ArtsLink grantee, has hosted 600 international artists, providing an opportunity for investigation and exchange. Ms. Lovšin was provided with a studio and access to a darkroom, wood shop, letter press, computers, video equipment and a reference library. She had opportunity to interact with other artists in residence and with artists and arts professionals in the larger Bay Area through open houses, performing arts events, public forums and artists’ dinners. Headlands organized a visit to Chicago and while there, Polonca presented a video screening of new work created during her residency.

California College of the Arts is the largest regionally accredited, independent school of art and design in the western United States. Mr. Malašauskas was invited as the Curator in Residence for the graduate division. He gave presentations to graduate students in the Curatorial Practice and Visual Criticism programs, conducted studio visits with a range of graduate students and met with students from different programs individually to help them develop their independent projects. In addition, he gave a public lecture and performance and screened CAC TV episodes which he produced in Lithuania. He was also able to make numerous studio visits to Bay Area artists.

Storefront for Art & Architecture is a nonprofit gallery committed to presenting work that challenges conventional perceptions of space and the built environment. Mr. Musovik was introduced to a network of artists, architects and organizations that are engaged with urban issues. The contacts enabled him to conduct research for a new project on public space that he will develop in Macedonia. He participated in a public presentation and discussion with Michael Rakowitz held at Storefront and participated in the Lost Highway Expedition at Columbia University.

Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, a former ArtsLink grantee, is dedicated to presenting artists’ projects on the leading edge of contemporary art. Mr. Popović met numerous artists and arts professionals in Portland as well as in Seattle and San Francisco. He created a new installation, influenced by his experiences in Seattle and made from materials donated from people he had met, which was exhibited at PICA as well as at the Portland Art Center. In conjunction with the exhibitions, he gave a public lecture at PICA.

The residency and fellowship programs at Kala Institute, a former ArtsLink grantee, provide emerging and established artists with opportunities to create new, experimental artwork and to exchange ideas with colleagues from many parts of the world. Mr. Serapionov worked in Kala’s Electronic Media Center and developed a new two-channel video project based on his experiences in California. He gave presentations, artist’s talks and screenings at Kala Institute, UC Berkeley and other locations in the Bay Area. He had many opportunities to interact with local artists and to visit local arts organizations.

Apexart, a former ArtsLink grantee, is a venue for cultural exchange among international curators, artists, arts managers and writers. Mr. Shkololli was introduced to an extensive list curators, museum professionals and artists who participate in the apexart program. He gave a presentation of curatorial work at Location One, and participated in an apexart public event in conversation with New York-based artist and writer Sabrina Gschwandtner.

Art in General, a former ArtsLink grantee, is an alternative art space which supports the creation and exhibition of challenging new work. Ms. Somogyi participated in the day-to-day operations of the gallery and attended numerous panels, performances and events at Art in General and throughout the city. In addition to meeting curators, arts professionals and artists, she was invited to moderate a well-attended presentation by the New York artist Michael Rakowitz and ArtsLink Fellow Oliver Musovik at Storefront for Art and Architecture.

The Moore Space is a 10,000-square-foot art space dedicated to presenting international contemporary art forms. Ms. Szépfalvi was provided with studio space and an office with a computer. She was introduced to local artists, collectors and arts professionals and visited galleries, private collections and art spaces. She was given a solo exhibition at the Moore Space which drew approximately 300 people to the opening. As a result of her residency, Ágnes is developing a new body of work inspired by murals in Miami.
