HFBK Hamburg Artists in Residence Program

Germany
Hamburg

The HFBK Hamburg Artists in Residence program, run in partnership with the Art School Alliance and other international funding organizations, hosts guest professors, lecturers, and artists to the university each semester to pursue their own artistic research. Residents engage in dialogue with HFBK students and faculty through studio visits, artist talks, exhibitions, and joint excursions; guest professors and lecturers also offer their own teaching formats.

The program emphasizes the Global South as a current development focus and may be linked to protective residencies for artists at risk. Partner organizations include the Goethe Institutes, DAAD, and the Martin Roth Initiative. The HFBK also works to integrate residents into its international network beyond the residency itself, fostering longer-term collaborations in artists’ home countries, in Germany, or at third locations.

In 2026, HFBK became a host and partner in the ArtsLink International Fellowships program. Silva Jährling, Academic Affairs/International Cooperations, oversees the hosting activities.
