Sahraa Karimi is an Afghan- Slovak filmmaker, screenwriter, and scholar whose work explores the intersection of gender, politics, and identity in contemporary Afghanistan. She is the director of Hava, Maryam, Ayesha (Venice Film Festival, 2019) and the critically acclaimed documentary Afghan Women Behind The Wheel (One World, 2010). Currently a lecturer in Film and Media Studies at Yale University, Karimi continues to use cinema as a medium of resistance and reflection, amplifying the voices of Afghan women under oppression. Her upcoming feature, Flight from Kabul ( Wandal Production, 2027) expands her artistic inquiry into memory, displacement, and resilience through a deeply personal and political lens.
