Four Russian authors will visit the US this spring, giving American audiences an opportunity to become acquainted with vibrant new talents coming out of Russia’s literary scene.  During their visit, the writers will take part in the PEN World Voices Festival and give additional readings in New York City and Chapel Hill, NC.

CEC ArtsLink invites you to an evening of contemporary Russian poetry and prose which explores perceptions of Russia and the US from opposite sides of the ocean.  Authors Leonid Kostyukov and Dmitry Vedenyapin will read selections from their work in Russian, with English translations read by Maria Gusev.  The authors will then discuss their work—and issues pertaining to crossing geographical, cultural and literary borders—with Pavel Lembersky, a New York based author and journalist.

The Russian Version by Elena Fanailova wins Best Translated Book Award

The Russian Version by Elena Fanailova, translated into English by Stephanie Sandler and Genya Turovskaya, has been awarded the 2010 Best Translated Book Award for Poetry. The announcement was made on March 10th at a special award party at Idlewild Books in New York City.

CEC ArtsLink and Ugly Duckling Presse present a literary evening with two not-to-be-missed contemporary women poets. Elena Fanailova and Marina Temkina will read from their latest books (The Russian Version and What Do You Want?, respectively) and discuss their work, the political situation in post-Soviet Russia, and issues of identity with Michael Scammell, Professor of Creative Writing and Translation at Columbia University. A reception will follow the reading.
