Aleksandr Ulanov is the author of four books of prose and poetry and over 200 articles on contemporary literature published both in Russia and abroad. His works have been translated into English, German, French, Swedish, and Chinese. He lives in Samara but travels a lot in and outside of the country. As he himself says, likes to look, walk, read, and listen and writes trying to see something and understand what he and others are doing. Translates poetry, teaches contemporary Russian poetry and avant-garde literature, participates in many national and international literary festivals.

Career Updates

  • Ulanov's latest book of prose, Between We (Mezhdu my), published in 2006 was short-listed for the 2006 "Andrey Beliy" Prize for prose.
  • Ulanov was also one of 16 ArtsLink Awards fellows in 2007, spending three weeks at the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, where he met colleagues from around the world and conducted work on his current editorial project-- an anthology of contemporary American poetry in Russian translation.
